Bangladesh: Food Distribution in Flood Affected Areas

Bangladesh: Food Distribution in Flood Affected Areas

Bangladesh is currently experiencing a flood. There is a humanitarian crisis. People find refuge in shelters, but lack food and other necessities.

A few quotes from the affected areas:

No one is staying in their own house there. Everyone has taken refuge in the shelter… people of all religions are living together… In this situation, almost everyone needs assistance. I got information from seven villages in two areas, and each village has an average of 50 to 60 families.

I have heard that the government is also providing relief, but it is not enough… food is not reaching many families.

There are seven villages… and adding other communities will help a lot… With your help, I will try to distribute it equally among all.

The flood situation is deteriorating… flood waters started entering five more districts.

…it’s just a drop in a bucket… anyway, we buy rice, lentils and oil like in the past and give them.

After visiting them we saw that they’re living a helpless life. When we reached out to them, they were running through the water to have the help. But sadly, we were not able to help everyone over there. In every disaster shelter, there are 170-180 families.

There are many families that still need help. When we went to distribute the food to a shelter, the people started coming from other shelters with the hope of getting the relief. I was confused, what should I do? because there were a lot of people!

They requested me to be there again… I wanted to inquire if they are getting help from other organizations, but they said, they got some help from other organizations but it was very little. The crops of their fields and the saving food of their home are damaged. That’s why they need an urgent help for food. One good thing is, they already know the method of purifying water. The way you said to purify water, they are already using this way and drinking purified water. But we revised the method to them again.

…we made it by God’s grace finally. We thank God, and also we’re thankful to you. Two women and a men gave their testimonies:

We’re struggling with the flood and living a helpless life, we’re starving with our children and families. But we got some help from you. We thank you for this help.

Thank you for standing beside us in this circumstances. God bless you a lot.

We’re in crisis of food. We lost our crops, we don’t have any job or work, we can’t provide food for our family and children. We will ask you to lend a helping hand again.

Please keep us in your prayers.

We do pray for them and also try to help. Please join with us in this cause. Just make a donation to Messiah’s Harvest and we will send 100% to the needy in the flood affected areas in Bangladesh.
